Please read his beautiful entry below:

As to why my wife deserves a free photo package, I don’t know if I can do justice to what she’s been through nor how amazing she is as a mother.

It wasn’t likely that we would be able to have children.  When we met we were both in our mid-thirties, and my wife was just getting over a cancer in her brain through which she battled and endured numerous rounds of chemo.  I think it was this experience that gave her such a zest for life and such joy for the little things we did.  That’s what first made me fall in love with her. When we did get pregnant, it was considered a high risk pregnancy due to her age (still young in my eyes) and concerns for what the treatments may have done to her body.   There were complications, but she considered them minor, and she would be the first to point out that others have endured far worse.   I held our child for the first time and worried for her while she was stabilized after an emergency c-section.  Her blood pressure was still quite low when we were finally allowed in her recovery room, but she smiled so big.   She held Isaac and fed him for the first time, and her blood pressure automatically improved.   They always seem to have that effect on one another, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t often jealous of their relationship.  But even more so I’m grateful.

Isaac turned two this last year, as my wife and I enter our fourth decade on Earth.   We have the most amazing child.  At two he sings his ABCs, and Twinkle twinkle.  He counts to 20 and enjoys jumping in muddy puddles. He says please and thank you with no prodding whatsoever.  He is shy, but exuberant and shares his mother’s love of life and new experiences.   He has a hug for everyone he knows, and a smile for absolutely anyone.

Last June we moved to Lake Crystal to be near Connie’s parents and for our child to be near at least one set of grandparents.   We had hoped we would have more time, but Connie’s father Richard, died in January of COPD, two days before her birthday.  A week later, Lucky, our family dog passed as well.  But what I find amazing is how Connie sees the world.  Rich and Lucky were special friends, and he would dote on Lucky with treats from the butcher shop when they would dogsit.  Connie thinks that maybe her dad just needed a little company, and Lucky is still sitting on his lap begging for treats.   I can’t describe all the moments my wife found time to help care for her father, help her mother clean and move out of the family home, all while working a full time job and never letting our child feel neglected in any way.  In fact, a few weeks later, she spent a week away from work caring for Isaac when he had to have his tonsils and adenoids out.  I can tell you she’s the most amazing daughter, wife, mother, and woman I have ever met.

All that said, I know that me saying all of this would make her uncomfortable.   She would point out that others have had it worse.  She wouldn’t, herself, compete with anyone else over her experiences.  But I’m happy to say that she’s amazing and tell you for her.

Thank you,

Corey Van Raalte
